Frankie's Interview Transcript

Frankie: Why did you want me to go to college?

Frankie's mother: “I wanted you to go to college because I believe that education was an important aspect for you to find a good job in the future. I always believed that education would take you further and give you more opportunities. You are exposing yourself to people who have similar goals, and have a chance to get involved in an environment specifically for you to branch out and learn. Back then, I did not have the opportunities that you have today. Seeing people who decided to get an college education versus those who didn't, it was apparent to see the amount of opportunities were greater for those who did have a college education. The current state of the workforce continues to require a higher degree of education as there are so many students to compete with. Getting a college education allows you to go deeper in your field of interest and learning is always a great attribute to have.”

Frankie: What were some concerns you originally had about me going to college? What were you most scared about?

Frankie's mother: “I was scared on whether or not you could handle the workload of a college student. I knew it was stressful, and you being the first in the family to go to college made me worried since you were going into the unknown, and I couldn’t guide you through that.”
